"Urban Infrastructure Development and Construction Market Regulation"

In early September, The Ministry of Construction, P. R. China and The Environment, Transport and Works Bureau of Hong Kong SAR Government jointly organized a conference on "Urban Infrastructure Development and Construction Market Regulation". The conference is a major event of the construction industry and real estate sectors of the two places of the year. It aims to promote the exchange of construction technology and expertise, and enhance the co-operation between the construction industry of the Mainland and Hong Kong. This year, the conference was held from 10 to 13 September in Urumqi. Upon the invitation of the Bureau, the Branch Office sent two representatives to attend the conference.

The conference included visits, study tour and a two day technical paper presentation, group discussions and forum. For the paper presentation and forum sessions, they were held in the conference centre of Yindu Hotel of Urumqi. A total of 19 co-organizers and associate organizers from Mainland China and Hong Kong participated in the conference. The size of the Hong Kong delegation is over 150 people and most of the delegates are senior executives of the construction, engineering, management and real estate sectors in Hong Kong. This year, the topics of discussion focused on three main areas, namely "Impact of Urban Infrastructure Development on Urban Planning", "Development and Regulation of the Construction Market" and "Construction of Urban Infrastructure and Safety Management". During the conference, delegates actively participated in the discussion, shared their experience and made many valuable suggestions to the senior Mainland officials and their counterparts.

Besides attending the paper presentation, discussion and forum sessions, the delegation also visited the city of Urumqi and the regions at its vicinity, including the improvement projects of Urumqi, Urban Planning Exhibition Centre, Tian Qi, Dabancheng Wind Power Station and Tulufan. Delegates found the conference valuable not only for a better understanding on the development of the city in the north-west region of China, but also for business exploration.
