Event Details: Visit of Cathay City

On 29 May 10 morning, Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch has organized a visit to Cathay City. Cathay City is the Headquarter of the Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. It locates at the south-east of Chek Lap Kok Island, and the total site area is 4 hectares. The construction of Cathay City was completed in 1999 and the total construction cost is HK$2.3 billion. It consists of a number of buildings including: three 10-storey office towers and an Annex Block, which accommodate 4,000 staff members, one 23-storey staff hotel with 501 rooms, one 3-storey leisure center, one 8-storey Flight Training Centre with 14 flight simulators, and one 7-storey Airline Stores Building.


The City is environmental friendly and has adopted a number of green initiatives on energy management including highly insulated external fabric, solar shading through automatic activated blinds, intelligent Building Management System, electronic ballasts and high-efficient diffusers for lighting, modular office furniture and partitioning system, solar panel to provide hot water for washing etc. Since its opening, the City was awarded with many Green Certifications, such as ISO 14001 Certificate, EPD- IAQ Certificate, HK BEAM Platinum Standard Certificate etc.


Upon arrival, members received a warm welcome from the Facility Manager of Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. In the welcome remarks, members were briefed about the facilities and environmental installations of Cathay City. Thereafter, members were arranged to visit the training facilities, museum, and sports centre of the City. The visit was an overwhelming success and nearly 40 members had participated in the activity. Members found that the visit is useful and has widened their horizon and knowledge.
