An International Academic Conference was held at Hwa Hsia Institute of Technology, Taipei, Taiwan on 24 September 2010. The conference aims to promote professional housing management practice in Taiwan and to provide a platform for knowledge and experience sharing among housing management professionals in the region. Speakers from the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, China and Macau were invited to share their view on Housing Management in the conference, including: Prof Paddy Gray, President of Chartered Institute of Housing; Mr Bonny Chiu, Vice-Chairman of IT Committee, Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch (CIHAPB); Dr Oscar Chan, Director , Macau Institute of Management; Mr Song Youxing, President & Chief Editor of Modern Property Management Magazine, China; Mr K K Wong, Hong Kong Board Vice Chairman, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Ten members of the Executive Committee of the Branch, led by Chairman Mr Sanford Poon, have attended the conference.

At the opening ceremony, Dr W F Yen, President of Hwa Hsia Institute of Technology expressed his gratitude on the presence of various distinguished guests including Prof Paddy Gray, President of CIH, Mr Sanford Poon, Chairman of CIHAPB, Mr H C Cheung, member of Taiwan Legislative Yuan, members of the Executive Committee of CIHAPB etc. Mr. Sanford Poon briefly introduced the history of the Branch and shared his view with the participants on the property management in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He hoped CIHAPB could further collaborate with Taiwan counterparts on the promotion of professional housing management in the region. After the opening remarks of the honorable guests, the conference commenced with the speeches delivered by the guest speakers.

At noon, Prof Paddy Gray, Mr Sanford Poon and members of Executive Committee of CIHAPB have also attended the opening ceremony of the Taiwan Liaison Office of CIHAPB at Hwa Hsia Institute of Technology; and the Inauguration Ceremony of “China Property and Facility Management Association”.

The conference was well attended by nearly 300 housing management professionals from the Asia Pacific region. The function conducted smoothly throughout the day and was overwhelmingly successful. Participants highly praised the information/knowledge shared by the speakers in the conference.
