Event Details: Technical Visit to Black Point Power Station

A Technical Visit was successfully held to Black Point Power Station on 3 May 2014 with a delegation of about 30 members led by Mr Bonny Chiu (Chairman of Professional Practice Committee) and Mr Kenny Chow (Chairman of External Affair Committee).

Black Point Power Station is located in the north-west area of Hong Kong and is one of the world's largest gas-fired combined cycle power stations. It is owned by the Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO), a joint venture between CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (70%) and China Southern Power Grid International (HK) Co., Limited (30%), and is operated by CLP now. CLP became the first electricity supplier in Hong Kong to use natural gas for power generation when Black Point started operation in 1996. The use of natural gas enabled us to reduce total emissions during a period when electricity consumption on our system increased by 80%.

The visit enriched members' understanding on the electricity power infrastructure and inter-relations within Hong Kong territory and between the vicinity and cross-board areas and widened their horizon of visiting Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plants. This visit was well received by members and successful.
