Event Details: 2023 Annual Convention of the Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch

The 2023 Annual Convention of the Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch (CIHAPB) was successfully held on 31 August 2023, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre despite a typhoon hitting the city. Over 200 attendees demonstrated a keen interest in the latest issues, technologies, facilities, and systems related to property management in Hong Kong. The theme of the convention was "Intelligent Building: Integrating Technology & ESG for Wellness" featuring various keynote speeches and forums discussing the relationship between living environments, health, and sustainability under the ESG framework, spanning from property management to legal and environmental fields.


Mr. Wong Ying Kit Romulus, Chairman of the CIHAPB, welcomed the guests, speakers, members, and organizers, introducing the convention theme. He emphasized the importance of ESG in global business and social development as well as its significance for sustainable corporate growth, aiming to delve into the connection between living environments, health, ESG, property management, and sustainable corporate development. The President of the Chartered Institute of Housing in the UK, Lara Oyedele, also welcomed the attendees through a video speech, sharing her journey from receiving community housing support to becoming the President, aiming to make the world a better place.


The opening speech was delivered by Ms. Winnie Ho, Secretary for Housing of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, marking the beginning of the Annual Convention. She shared the Housing Bureau's efforts to enhance living conditions by completing more housing projects, improving inadequate living environments, utilizing new technologies for property maintenance, and continuing the mission of "Building Homes, Building Families."


Subsequently, several speakers delivered keynote speeches. Mr. Alan SIU Yu-bun, CEO of the Property Management Services Authority, shared insights on leveraging new technologies in property management; Dr. Wu Yicheng, Vice Chairman (Mainland China Affairs) of the CIHAPB, discussed the relationship between green healthy operations and sustainable development of property management enterprises; Mr Dennis CHAN, Partner & GBA Lawyer, China-Appointed Attesting Officer of Chief Representative of Shanghai Office of Gallant, explored concerns in "Pitfalls in Personal Data Handling for Building Practitioners"; finally, Mr. Norman Cheng, Chairman of the Hong Kong Waste Management Association, shared valuable insights on "Turning Waste into Resources". Following the keynote speeches, a forum was moderated by Professor Yip Ngai Ming, former professor at the City University of Hong Kong, engaging in lively discussions on various property management issues with the attendees.


The closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Cheung Shu Yan, Deputy Chairman of the CIHAPB, expressing gratitude to the speakers, working partners, members, President Lara Oyedele of the Chartered Institute of Housing, and all members of the organizing committee for their support, ensuring the successful conclusion of the 2023 Annual Convention of the CIHAPB.
