4 Days' Study Tour to Beijing and Shijiazhuang
The Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch (CIHAPB) organized an activity named "Study Tour to Beijing and Shijiazhuang" from 13 to 16 March 2026. A group of 26 members was led by Mr. Keith Kwong (Chairman), Mr. Edmond Cheung (Deputy Chairman) and Mr. Sidney So (Chair, Activity Committee).
The study tour significantly deepened the understanding of tertiary education in the property management discipline and the practices for housing & facility management in Mainland China. Our members visited Shijiazhuang University, where their course had been granted accreditation by CIHAPB previously. Representatives from CIHAPB shared insights on housing management practices, the challenges of communicating and coordinating with Incorporated Owners, the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme (MBIS), and the development and characteristics of Deeds of Mutual Covenant (DMC) in Hong Kong. Professors and students of the University participated actively, fostering meaningful academic and professional exchange as well as emphasizing the importance of talent cultivation.
Another highlight was the re-visit to the China Property Management Institute (CPMI). An exchange meeting was hosted by Secretary General Mr. Liu Yankun, five institute representatives and ten CIHAPB Representatives focused on the briefing about the missions & services areas of CPMI, sharing the unique management for super high-rise buildings in Hong Kong. The delegation members gained valuable insight into the overall Government Policies, structure and operations of property management in China Mainland. This visit marks a further step forward in the relationship between the two professional bodies, working together to enhance the professional standards of the property management industry between China Mainland and Hong Kong.
Apart from the formal discussion forum, the study tour visited the KR Center, a green building with both WELL and LEED certifications in Beijing. The visit clearly demonstrated how sustainability, wellness, and efficient building management can be successfully integrated into a high-quality commercial development. These innovative concepts may provide useful reference for future developments in Hong Kong.
Overall, the study tour was highly enriching and inspiring. Through exposure to innovative building management, preventive maintenance concepts, and academic exchange, it not only broadened our professional horizons, but also encouraged us to continue striving for higher standards of professional development in our future property and facility management.
