International Housing Conference and Exhibition – Cape Town
8-12 October 2006
Upon the invitation of Southern African Housing Foundation, two Executive Committee members of CIHAPB had attended the conference and exhibition of theme on "Developing Sustainable Communities" with special focus on the development of Sub-Saharan Africa in Cape Town of South Africa on 8-12 October 06. Over 50 speakers from South Africa and other countries had delivered speeches in the conference, including Government officials, housing professionals, academics, CEOs of large corporation, bankers, researchers etc. Mr P Y Fung, Chairman of IT and PR committee of CIHAPB also presented a paper on "Public Housing in Hong Kong" in the conference to share our experience in Public Housing with the audience. The conference provided an excellent platform for delegates to meet, learn, exchange ideas and share experience and ended with a great success.

Visit to Sanxiang Town
28 October 2006
A delegation of 19 members led by Mr. Ricky Yuen, the Chairman, visited the Sanxiang Municipality on 28 October 2006. The delegation was delighted that Mr. Liang Xin, the Party Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Sanxiang Municipal Government graced them with his presence at the Government Office Building of the municipality. Mr. Liang gave the audience a welcome speech on the present development of real estate and property management in the area. The delegation was given an opportunity to network with the officials of Sanxiang government and senior property managers of local housing complexes during the sumptuous lunch reception. Several outstanding housing estates and school in the area were visited by the delegation including Zhongshan Agile Property Land Co. Ltd., a prominent property chain in the Pearl River Delta.

Harmonious Development of Property Management Forum in Guangzhou
8 November 2006
A forum on "Harmonious Development of Property Management" was held by Guangzhou Tianhe Property Management Association on 8 November 2006 in Guangzhou. Hong Kong Housing Society, HKU SPACE and the Asian Pacific Branch were presented at the Forum as participating organisations from Hong Kong. Over 200 participants comprising government dignitaries, prominent industry practitioners, local property managers and academic attended the forum. Topical issues namely "brand-name development of property management companies", "effective communication skills with the owners’ committees", "adoption of corporate governance in the owners´ committees and corporate training for the housing professionals in China" were discussed.

International Housing Conference in Hong Kong
24 November 2006
To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Asian Pacific Branch, the Branch has organised an International Housing Conference with the theme " Contemporary Housing Management – Beyond the Boundaries " on 24 November 06 in the Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hotel of Hong Kong. A panel of distinguished speakers from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Macao, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, and UK gave their presentations on topical issues about current housing review and housing development in their regions.

The Conference was officiated by Dr. Patrick Ho, the Secretary for Home Affairs of the Hong Kong SAR Government and Mr. Ricky Yuen, the Chairman of the Asian Pacific Branch. Ms. Janet Hale, the President of Chartered Institute of Housing, led a delegation of 40 council members and staff to attend the event. The Conference was well-received by over 350 participants comprising housing officials, industry leaders, housing professionals, academic, students and those who are interested in the housing development. Overwhelming success of the Conference was attributable to the tremendous support given by the speakers and our UK headquarters, sponsorship provided by Hong Kong Housing Society and Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau of Hong Kong SAR Government, and concerted effort contributed by our members.

Joint Annual Dinner
24 November 2006
A joint annual dinner between the Asian Pacific Branch and Hong Kong Institute of Housing was held on 24 November at the Golden Mile Holiday Inn in Hong Kong. Over 420 guests and friends of the two Institutes attended the Dinner. Mr. Thomas Chan, the Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Housing) and the Director of Housing, was Guest of Honour at the dinner. Mr. Michael Suen, the Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands of Hong Kong SAR Government; Dr. Chiang Coc-meng, the President of Macao Housing Bureau; and Dr. Kenneth Kao, the Honorary Chairman of Taiwan Building Managers Association were honoured as "Honorary Members" by Chartered Institute of Housing on the occasion. Ms. Janet Hale, the President of Chartered Institute of Housing, presented the membership to the recipients. Four "Outstanding Student Awards" were also granted to the excellent students in the housing studies programmes in Hong Kong. The Dinner ended in an enjoyable atmosphere.

Presidential Visit to Beijing
26-30 November 2006
A delegation of 13 participants comprising council members from our UK headquarters and branch committee members from the Asian Pacific Branch led by Ms. Janet Hale, the President of Chartered Institute of Housing, has paid a visit to Beijing from 26 to 30 Nov 06.

On 29 November 2006, the delegation visited the China Property Management Institute (CPMI). The delegation was graced with the presence of Mr. Tian Zai Wei, Vice President and Mr Chen Wei, Secretary General. At the meeting with the representatives of China Property Management Institute, the delegation was able to perceive the property management development in China as well as to share their knowledge of UK property management with the counterparts in China. The meeting was fruitful and productive. The delegation also paid technical visit to two housing estates in Beijing to share the management experience.

The delegation took the opportunity to visit some of the famous tourist spots including the Great Wall etc. Members were highly impressed on the rapid development of Beijing and had a deeper understanding of the development of China.
